Andover Senior Center

By: Anne Knowles – September, 2012

September has been designated as Senior Center Month, in the town of Andover. Many residents of Andover have not yet made use of this center, and the many programs, recreational activities, trips, and interests, that a fully informed staff can show the 60 plus Andover resident. There is a great range of very interesting things to take part in and no matter what the interests are, the center is there to for the senior.

The center is open Monday through Friday and residents are encouraged to read the calendar for each month to see what interests them. There is transportation available for many activities, so getting to the center would not be a problem for most.

The senior center is located at the rear of the Town Offices 36 Barlett St., and is opened Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4p.m. Some holidays the center will be closed so a monthly calendar of events is available. Contact the Center for information or e-mail seniorcenter@andoverma.gov.

The programs that are being planned for the coming fall season include

Adventures outdoor to Workshops of every type. There are classes for exercise, water workouts at the YMCA, tap dancing, strength training, and yoga and so many interesting activities.

Workshops in computers, piano lessons, photography, group meetings in a multitude of interests – support for those seniors that would like to take part in discussion or simply listen to others, knitting and hand crafting, dance plus more.

The center is a great place to meet others that have an interest that a senior might find of interest, or you may suggest to the staff, an interest that you have that could include others.

The centers message and invitation for Andover seniors is YES I CAN.

“Small changes count and trying something new keeps us young. Take a class, try a craft, put all those pictures in an album, call an old friend, or learn to paint. All changes add up and enrich the quality of our lives. Join us in our commitment to make small changes count.”

So, with another season ahead, it is a great time to take advantage of one of Andover’s treasures and make a point of a visit to the Senior Center. There will be something that can be enjoyed. Oh, with a 24-hour notice, a great lunch is served, at a nominal cost of $ 2,50. Each day. So go on line or take a drive over to the center, get a brochure and see what going on.
