Ballardvale Native, Former Lawrence City Councilor Richard Lawrence to Share Stories of His Life as Multiracial Black-Man

West Parish Church extends an invitation to members of the public to hear the presentation.
Sunday, September 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at West Parish Church, 129 Reservation Road in Andover.

Former Lawrence City Councilor and candidate for mayor, Mr. Richard Lawrence will relate the struggles of growing up in Andover in the 1950’s and will share his experience in the Selma to Montgomery March in 1965 with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lawrence also marched for open Housing with Dr. King in Chicago and worked closely with the Rev. Jesse Jackson in Operation Breadbasket.

Born and raised in Ballardvale, the Rev. Mr. Lawrence is an ordained Methodist minister and author of Light, Bright, Damn Near White, a memoir he released last year. He served two terms on the Lawrence City Council and ran for mayor there in 1997.

He and his family now live in San Diego, CA.

Several of Richard’s family members will be in town this week-end for the University of San Diego-Harvard football game and hope to see Lawrence’s grandson, Anthony, quarterback the USD team to victory.
