Robert T. “Bob” McCann, the husband of the late Constance “Connie” (Fairweather) McCann, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2018. He was 87. Bob was the son of the late Esmeralda and Alexander McCann, and the brother of the late Barbara Mathers and Gilbert McCann.
Bob was born and raised in Lawrence, MA, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952. Upon his graduation, he found his calling for public service, and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his life, he found great joy in serving his family, his community, and his country.
Bob served as the president of South Lawrence Little League for 25 years, coaching and mentoring hundreds of kids all over the region. He was involved with several veterans’ organizations, including serving as the commandant of the Merrimack Valley and Massachusetts Marine Corps League. In addition, Bob spent more than 20 years fighting for veterans and their families as Director of Veterans Services in Lawrence. Perhaps his most proud accomplishment was seeing the construction of three veterans’ memorials on Lawrence Common and the veterans’ memorial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lawrence.
His life and undying patriotism serve as prime examples of what it means to be an American.
