Volunteers from 14 different Home Depot stores in New England showed up at the House of Mercy on Baystate Road with materials and workers to renovate the facility.

“They did painting throughout the building, refinishing the floor, air conditioning, installed shelving and did general cleanup for us. We are so grateful for this help,” said Carrie Wieland of House of Mercy.
House of Mercy is a day facility for the homeless in Lawrence, where they provide lunch, psychological counseling, job counseling, and help for addicts getting into detox.

“We also want to thank the Shaw’s warehouse in Methuen who provided lunch for the day; that was so nice of them. We also had some of the homeless veterans and homeless individuals pitch in and help out. It was a really nice day for all of us and now we have a much better environment here.”

Wieland says the store manager of the Home Depot in Methuen, Jairo Naranjo came to House of Mercy on Thanksgiving and volunteered and was so impressed with the work House of Mercy does that he offered to help as part of their program. Wieland says that Home Depot has also volunteered to help give a face-lift to two units of veterans housing, one in Groveland, MA and one in Rochester NH.

In both cases they are veterans who cannot live in their homes right now because they are condemned, and don’t have any money. So, Home Depot is going to fix up their homes for free. ◊
