It’s Election Time Get out and Vote

By: Peter Larocque – October, 2102

It’s finally here, next month November 6, 2012 we get to do our part as Americans and that is to go vote! All the T.V. and radio ads and phone calls concerning who we should vote for will come to an end and I can’t wait and I bet you can’t either!

Now, having said that, this particular election of 2012 is not like any other, we have two distinct, very opposite visions for the future direction for our country!

This election is not about being a Democrat, Republican or Independent. It’s about a direction of Individual Freedom versus another direction of Receiving Free Stuff! Very simply put, Freedom versus Free Stuff, which do you want?

One Presidential Candidate wants Government to enact policies that provide for every citizen of the United States of America whatever they will need from the time of their birth until the time of their death including free cell phones by means of redistribution of wealth.

The other Presidential Candidate wants Government to enact policies that allow The Free Enterprise System, Entrepreneurism, (those who take on the initiative and risk), be the engine that provides wealth for every working citizen of the United States of America. Also, when and if the need arises, Government as a safety net would provide help and assistance to those who need it. But this assistance is not meant to become a lifestyle!

When I approach the voter’s booth, I take with me this principle, which I get from 1 Timothy 2, 1-3. “ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior…”

I ask myself this question, who on this ballot before me will endeavor to the best of their ability to allow me and my family to lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty? Another words, who will best represent me and my interest both nationally and locally?

Now having put forth my reasoning process on who will I vote for in November, here are my choices,

President and Vice-President: Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Senator: Scott Brown.

Congress: Jon Golnik

State Senator: Blank, why blank? Because both candidates, Barry Finegold and Paul Adams are friends of Mayor Lantigua and they always seem to lend a deaf ear or blind eye when it comes to Mayor Lantigua.

State Representative 16th District: Blank, why blank? Because Marcos Devers also is a friend of Mayor Lantigua and always blindly supports the Mayor.

State Representative 17th District: Kevin Cuff.

Register of Deeds: Jack Wilson.

To my fellow Lawrencians, if we are really serious about healing our city then may I humbly suggest to you that any candidate who at one time or another proudly confessed to be a friend and supporter of Mayor Lantigua is NOT worthy of our vote. Voting for candidates who will just continue to be silent on issues concerning Mayor Lantigua will just empower the Mayor even more. This includes Candidate for State Representative in the 17th District, City Councilor-at-Large, Frank Moran. Candidates Finegold, Adams, Devers and Moran, all allies of the Mayor are doing absolutely nothing while 3 off the job police officers, one convicted and 2 indicted remain on the payroll. This is a perfect example of what I mentioned before about having deaf ears and blind eyes when it comes to Mayor Lantigua. Their non-action places them in a category making them unelectable therefore, undeserving of our vote! They have made the conscience decision to put what is in the best interest of their friend Mayor Lantigua ahead of our best interest! When former Lawrence School Superintendent Wilfredo Laboy was indicted, they all wanted him fired and off the payroll immediately! The difference between then and now is that the 3 Police Officers are also friends of Mayor Lantigua. As I write this column, The Mayor is now playing games with the City’s Licensing Board by filling the empty seats with his friends and again these Political allies of the Mayor are silent! So as far as I am concerned, this decision to be silent by Finegold, Adams, Devers and Moran makes them unworthy of our vote!

Together we can begin the Healing process for our city by removing the Mayor’s partners from Political Office. One can only hope that eventually, the Mayor himself will no longer be in Office.

In conclusion, let’s say that for whatever reason one or more of the above mentioned candidates that I am voting for does not win; does this make our country or our city come to a halt? No! Why, because God still holds me and my family along with all the others who believe in Him in the palm of His Hands and will not let us be defeated by those in politics! He will never leave us or forsake us! That my friend is His promise!

God Bless each and every one of you and don’t forget to vote!
