BOSTON—Felix Paulino, 35, of Lawrence was indicted on charges of interstate extortionate threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. On April 2, 2013, Paulino was arrested on a criminal complaint. He is currently in federal custody.
The indictment alleges that, beginning in October 2012 and continuing until November 2012, Paulino made threats in interstate commerce. It further alleges that on the date of his arrest, Paulino was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a crime which, is punishable by more than one year in prison.
The extortion charge carries a statutory maximum penalty of three years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The firearms charge carries a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine for the firearms charge.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nadine Pellegrini, Chief of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
The details contained in the Indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
