Market Basket Board to Hold Special Meeting Next Week, Warns Employees Will Be Fired if They Walk in Protest

Market Basket letterBy: Tom Duggan – July 17, 2014

The turmoil surrounding the removal of Arthur T. Demoulas as the head of the Market Basket supermarket chain continues as a letter was sent to all employees today informing them that a “special meeting” has been called for next Monday July 21st to discuss the demands of employees that Arthur T. Demoulas be reinstated.

The intimidating tone of the letter makes very clear to employees that if they walk off the job in protest of Mr. Demoulas’ removal they will be fired and that their actions will be as individuals.

“We believe that while all the communication to us has been represented as unanimous – this is an INDIVIDUAL decision that each of you have to make, whether you wish to continue to work at Market Basket. To be clear – doing your job is continuing to do the same type of work you do everyday – not newly defined tasks from your supervisor. If you choose to abandon your job or refuse to perform your job requirements, you will leave us no choice but to permanently replace you”
