LAWRENCE – Police have released few details about a man who was shot late Friday afternoon on a small canal bridge connecting Island Street and Canal Street in Lawrence.

Police were originally dispatched to Union and Canal Streets for a shooting victim shortly after 5pm, but officers arriving at the scene could not find a shooting victim. The police dispatcher then directed officers to the area of Island Street, where the found a Hispanic male with at least one gunshot wound.

Valley Patriot sources report that the victim was not in critical condition but did have injuries serious enough to have him flown via MedFlight to Boston for surgery.

Lawrence Police put out a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for a green Honda with three Hispanic males in their late teens. No plate number was given.

No other description of the suspects was given.

Police say they do not believe the shooting was gang related.
