Methuen Mayor Zanni inspects the cucumbers

METHUEN  — The Holy Family Hospital/Groundwork Lawrence Farmers Market has opened for the summer season on Friday Friday July 8th and Mayor Zanni says he is thrilled.

Located at 254 Broadway, next to the Methuen Federal Credit Union and Methuen Village, it offers a variety of farm-fresh produce from Groton’s Riverdale Farm, Fresh Start Farms (a collective of refugee and immigrant farmers participating in the New American Sustainable Agriculture Program), the Groundwork Lawrence Green Team (a group of Lawrence High School students paid part-time to participate in and lead local environmental and healthy community initiatives including growing food), and local fish vendor Pescaderia.

In previous years, the market had been held on the grounds of Holy Family Hospital.

“I am very happy to see the market move to a more heavily trafficked and accessible location,” said Mayor Stephen Zanni, who visited the market on opening day. “It is a great asset to our community.”

The Market will be open every Friday through October 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will also include music, performances, crafts and children’s activities. Vendors accept cash, debit, credit, vouchers, WIC, EBT/SNAP/Foodstamps, and senior coupons.
