On March 20, 2015 the first annual Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) scholarship from the local annual benefit, “The Valley Patriot BASH,” was awarded to Sabrina Powers of Methuen.

I first met Sabrina through the Gr. Lawrence Technical School District Committee, on which I represent Methuen as Vice-Chair. Sabrina serves as a student representative on the District Committee, and reminds school committee members of her fellow students accomplishments, events, and most importantly — gives us a student’s perspective on our school committee.

Sabrina Powers is a senior graduating from the Culinary department, and will be attending Johnson & Wales University this fall. She is a Reggie Leader, which is a group of students that work together to promote school spirit, leadership, and volunteerism.

She’s a member of SkillsUSA, a competitive culinary competition, in which GLTS competes nationally. She is also a peer mentor for incoming freshman. She has volunteered for the Peoples Recovery Center in Lawrence, and somehow finds the time to also tutor students in Methuen while maintaining an almost perfect 4.0 GPA.

Sabrina attended The Valley Patriot BASH with her proud parents. GLTS Administrator Dale Hollingshead and GLT School Committeeman Gary Mannion of Lawrence presented the award, while I highlighted the history of the award and Sabrina’s accomplishments to all the guests who helped fund the night’s scholarship awards.

A huge thank you to guests and sponsors for making it possible to add GLTS to the list of high school scholarships funded through the Bash. YOU continue to make the difference for some of the most promising students in the Merrimack Valley. Sabrina Powers is an incredible young adult, with a bright future ahead of her.
