Methuen Sticker Shock Campaign

IMG_0071On Saturday, December 19th, Evelyn Rodriguez of the Lawrence/Methuen Community Coalition (LMCC) under the Family Services of the Merrimack Valley, collaborated with the Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) of Methuen High School, as well as Dean Brouder, Mike Caban, and Jackie Rubino. They came together in order to organize a “Sticker-Shock” campaign geared towards underage drinking prevention. Evelyn, a Substance Abuse Prevention Collaborative Coordinator, started this initiative in Methuen as a pilot strategy which entailed going around to different liquor stores and placing adhering stickers to packaged alcoholic items that said “It is ILLEGAL to provide alcohol to people under 21”.

When asked what made Evelyn think of this initiative, she replied with ….

“Through our grant we had to establish a city to designate for the pilot strategy, Methuen has not had a sticker campaign in years. Our mission is to send loud and concise message that prevention IS still very much active in the communities and it is our primary initiative that we put emphasis on early intervention prevention because it is imperative to our youth’s development and advancement. Having our youth involved in the prevention outreach made it much more fulfilling and demonstrated that their interests are just as strong and evident in our community.”
Having the SADD students involved and eager to be part of another campaign is what is going to keep these initiatives going. If there are any questions in regards to this Pilot Program and Campaign, please feel free to contact Evelyn, at 978-688-5694 or erodriguez@mylmcc.org.
