Shawn Hansen Sports Corner: 30th GBSCC

shawn hansenAs I turned 30 Years old this past August, the Kansas City Royals won their first World Series title in 30 Years as the Greater Boston Sports Collectors Club is having their 30th annual autograph signing in Wilmington from Nov. 06-Nov. 08.

As there will be roughly 53 past and present athletes combined at the Shriner’s Auditorium at 99 Fordham Road, this weekend is one sports fans of all ages do not want to miss.

Sure Shot Promotions (www.sureshotpromotions.com) that Mike Josselyn started in 2003 as a marketing company has been coming to Wilmington since 2006 and said he is most excited to see the guys who played for the 1967 Impossible Dream Team. “To get 15 of them all together at once is amazing,” said Josselyn. Along with coming to Wilmington, Sure Shot Promotions has many other shows throughout the year in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and has done shows in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine in the past. “The 1980 Miracle on Ice Hockey Team will be there. They are the biggest and most well know guests we have this year.”

Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this past summer, John Smoltz will be appearing at the Shriner’s Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 08 from 12-1:30 p.m. as Pedro Martinez will be there from 2-3 p.m. David Ortiz who should be inducted into the Hall of Fame after his illustrious career ends will be there from 12:30-2 p.m. JoJo White who was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame this past summer will be there from 2-3 p.m.

When entering the Shriner’s Auditorium, go up stairs, take a left and walk through the entrance way to see a room full of lines for athletes who will be signing different memorabilia artifacts.

In the autograph room, take a right at the back right of the room as there will be 400 dealer tables.

“A lot of them are people selling their own memorabilia,” said Josselyn explaining that major venders come to the event as well.  “It’s the biggest show in New England and one of the biggest in the country.”

Talking about the slew of venders that come to the Shriner’s Auditorium, Josselyn mentioned that this part of the weekend is good as well for people that want to buy or sell sports merchandise or even autographs.

Hunt Auctions, Beckett, JSA, Dick Gordon, Steiner Sports and Rich Altman are a few of the other big names that will be at the show.

The 30th Annual GBSCC autograph signing is the weekend of Nov. 06-08. Venders will start setting everything up the evening of Nov. 06 as autograph guests will be there from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 07 and 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 08.
