That 47% Was Not Far Off

Well, I guess the outcome of the election proves that Romney was right about that 47 percent.

Perhaps it is even more. It appears that the nation has reached the tipping point where there are more people dependent on the government, in one way or another, than those who are not. After his survey of America around the 1830’s’ Alexis de Tocqueville made the following perceptive commentary. “

“A democracy cannot persist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote largesse from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.”

The shadows of what he predicted are presently cast full upon us to a ludicrous degree. Observe now the importance during an election campaign of “free contraceptives”. De Tocqueville’s predictions are becoming a reality all around us.

The Democratic Party is no longer the party concerned with what our citizens can do for America. Remember Jack Kennedy’s famous inaugural speech-“ “Ask not what your country can do for you?” Once we reach the tipping point, America will be in a decline very difficult, if not impossible, to reverse.

The nation’s culture is fast changing. When given the choice between hard work and Santa Claus, the majority voters today pick Santa Claus.

The work ethic that made this country strong and great is rapidly diminishing as the term itself, “work ethic”, becomes extinct. Perhaps things must get much worse before they can get better. If they do so, let’s hope we can find our way back.
