2017 is the first year The Valley Patriot BASH has partnered with the men and women of the Methuen Police Department for a scholarship presentation in the amount of $1,000 each to two students.
David Gardner, Methuen Police Patrolman’s Union president took the microphone to honor their two scholarship recipients for the evening. Gardner was flanked by Chief Solomon and Officer Mark Whittaker, treasurer of the union.
“I want to thank the Methuen Police Patrolman’s Union. In the last three months we have given out $5,000 in support to people how have lost their houses due to fire, cops for kids with cancer, Methuen boys and girls hockey, the Methuen High scholarship foundation and obviously tonight we are giving out two, $1,000 scholarships to two deserving seniors.”
“Our first recipient is a senior at Methuen High School. She works at the Launch Trampoline Park in Methuen. She is involved in Students Helping Other Students, student council where she serves as treasurer, and participates in sports. She has been playing basketball in Methuen for 12 years. Shes on a rival basketball club team. She is on the rowing crew team, and she also plays volleyball. She is a Methuen youth basketball coach. She is also a score keeper so the days she’s not coaching she is keeping score. She will be attending Merrimack College and will be studying public education. Our first scholarship recipient tonight is Selina Loren DeLeon.”
“Our next recipient is a senior at Methuen High School who wants to pursue a career in criminal justice. See is currently an explorer for the Methuen Police Department. She has been a part of the Methuen High School’s JROTC for the past four years. During her junior year she was the consultant for the military ball and is currently a staff member with the rank of first lieutenant. This young lady started playing varsity hockey while she was in eight grade at the comprehensive grammar school. She will be attending Pittsburgh State University next fall as a criminal justice major. Her name is Amanda Ellen Mambro.”
