It’s amazing what the Valley Patriot has done with this annual BASH scholarship program,” said Chris Eldredge of the Lawrence High School Alumni Association.

Each year The Valley Patriot throws an Anniversary BASH where awards are given to cops, firefighters, veterans, and those who fight for the 1st Amendment. The annual BASH also raises money for scholarships for local high school students.

“Six years ago The Valley Patriot was able to raise enough money from the raffle at this event to donate one scholarship for $100 to one Lawrence High School student. Each year since then, The Valley Patriot has been able to slowly increase the amount of money they give for scholarships and has also increased the number of students receiving scholarship money.”

“This year, thanks to some very generous sponsors, seven high school students attending this BASH will walk out of the room tonight with $1,000 each to further their education. To me, that’s pretty amazing!”

Superintendent/Receiver Jeff Riley, Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera, School Committee member Patricia Mariano and Eric Melanson of the Lawrence High Alumni Association were on hand for the scholarship presentation.
“Cristian Lantigua is ranked 4th in his class and maintains a 4.1 GPA. Cristian is a 3 sport athlete, participating in cross country, in-door track and field and outdoor track and field. “Cristian has been accepted to Seton Hall University, Bridgewater State University, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, Springfield College, University of Massachusetts- Amherst, Fitchburg State University and Merrimack College.”

“Leslie Marrero is ranked 3rd in her class and maintains a 4.2 GPA.
