Yoga Discounts for North Andover Town Employees

Yoga Offers Four Weeks of Unlimited Yoga for $75 with a Portion of the Proceeds to Directly Benefit The Giving Garden

ANDOVER, MA – (July 1, 2016) – As a result of last year’s successful summer season HOME Yoga in downtown Andover has a new summer program for North Andover town employees by offering reduced rates for classes. Town employees in North Andover can benefit from the discounted rates and have flexibility in class choices with more than 45 classes a week from which to choose.

The summer session kicks off July 1st and has open enrollment so town employees can drop in to any class that fits his/her schedule. This special North Andover town employee program will run through Labor Day, Sept. 5. For just $75, town employees can enjoy unlimited yoga for four weeks. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Andover’s Giving Garden, whose mission is to bring together volunteers of all ages to grow fresh, local produce for local food pantries.

“By talking to both pantry guests and volunteers, I learned which vegetables would be in the highest demand and which are hardest for families to access,” says Emily Strong, one of the lead gardeners and a member of the Board of Directors of Neighbors In Need, who spent time visiting the food pantries this winter. “The gardeners then created a plan to meet those needs. Now when I go back to the pantries, people ask me about the garden. They want to know how everything is growing!”

“We wanted to combine the healing benefits of both eating well and taking care of one’s body, mind and soul,” said Kristin Olson, owner of HOME Yoga. “The Giving Garden’s mission is similar to ours, which is to bring together people of all ages, create community and feel better about oneself afterward. Practicing yoga is all about paying better attentionand creating awareness, not about touching your toes.”

The summer series of yoga classes will encompass a broad range of class types that will be tailored to meet a variety of fitness capabilities. All levels are welcome. These yoga sessions engage multiple muscle groups, as well as burn fat, increase flexibility, and improve overall health; both mental and physical. Classes are held at their two Andover HOME Yoga Studio locations; 28 Chestnut Street, Andover MA and 305 North Main Street, Andover MA. Yoga classes are offered seven days a week from 6am to 8:30pm. These sessions offer a variety of styles of yoga including; vinyasa flow, hatha, yin, restorative, Iyengar and slow flow.

In July, 2015, a group of volunteers from South Church in Andover planted the first seeds in The Giving Garden. Those seeds yielded 750 pounds of organically grown produce that was donated to Neighbors In Need, which operates 11 food pantries in the greater Lawrence area. Planting for 2016 began in March, and many crops have already been harvested. A yield of 4000 pounds is expected this year. Located on the grounds of Rolling Ridge Conference Center in North Andover, the mission of The Giving Garden is to bring together volunteers of all ages and faiths to grow fresh produce for local food pantries. Volunteer groups and individuals who are willing to get their hands dirty to help others are welcome. The founders of the garden hope their efforts will bring people together to build community, have fun, get some fresh air, and most of all, help those in need. Lawrence has only one full service grocery store to service 76,000 residents, classifying it as a “food dessert” by the USDA.
