Lawrence High’s, JrROTC Jaraliz Morales is Valley Patriot BASH Scholarship Recipient ~ KANE’S KORNER

3-23

High School Senior Jaraliz Morales will be presented with the Lawrence Junior ROTC Scholarship on March 31st at the Valley Patriot Bash. Kane recognizes Jaraliz as a hard charging individual with a strong work ethic. He believes her mother Arisleidy Alejo modeled hard work in their home and instilled being purposeful and productive as a family value. Arisleidy relocated from the Dominican Republic as a young mother and raised her family in the United States including Jaraliz , her sister, and 4 brothers. Kane only has one sister and wondered what it would be like to be part of a large family.

Jaraliz holds the title of Cadet LTC at the Jr. ROTC program in Lawrence. Kane learned that this is the highest rank in JROTC. In this position she mentors the participating cadets especially the freshman and sophomores and serves as the Battalion Commander of the Lancer Battalion. Kane asked how she originally became interested in JROTC? Jaraliz explained that she knew several of the cadets since her brothers participated in the program. Jaraliz currently has one brother serving in the National Guard and another brother serving in the United States Army.

Like her brothers, she embraced JROTC as an opportunity to spend time with like-minded people, and gain valuable leadership experience. Jaraliz told Kane that she couldn’t think of too many organizations that would promote this level of responsibility for someone in her age group. She explained to Kane that her JROTC group functioned very much like a family.

Another area of her life that Jaraliz pushes hard is academics. She embraced the opportunity to attend the Abbott Lawrence Academy program located in Lawrence High School. This specialized academic program allows students to participate in accelerated classes and attend college classes at Merrimack College on campus. Kane thought it was really cool that Jaraliz attended college classes at Merrimack while still in high school. Jaraliz explained that this opportunity has awarded her the opportunity to experience the college campus and academic requirements of a college student.

Jaraliz has applied to a number of local colleges including Merrimack College. She plans to study at a 4 year college. She will enter school as undeclared as she explores classes in the medical field, business field, and law. Jaraliz would like to practice living independently by living away at school.

Besides JROTC , academics, and social time, Jaraliz also plays softball for Lawrence High School. Kane feels Jaraliz is truly a well-rounded individual and would like to invite you to contribute to her Scholarship fund through the Valley Patriot.
