Haverhill – Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) has donated $10,000 to Catie’s Closet, a nonprofit organization in Dracut Mass., to support their SOS Urgent Response program.

Founded in 2009, Catie’s Closet provides clothes, toiletries and other essentials to students who cannot afford them by setting up secure stores (called closets) in schools. These closets offer these items at no cost to the children, enabling them to attend class and participate in school activities with dignity and confidence. Catie’s Closet currently operates in 130 schools throughout southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts, serving more than 90,000 students daily.

The nonprofit’s SOS Urgent Response program offers immediate assistance to children facing critical circumstances. Catie’s Closet partners with social service agencies to provide clothing to children who are experiencing homelessness, transitioning to a new living situation, new to the United States, survivors of domestic abuse and more. When a call is received from a social service agency, Catie’s Closet creates and sends a customized package of clothing and hygiene essentials to the child within 48 hours.

“We are so thankful to Merrimack Valley Credit Union for their generous sponsorship of our SOS Urgent Response Program,” said CEO & Co-Founder of Catie’s Closet, Mickey Cockrell. “This impactful donation provides 250 children with urgent response packages filled with clothing and basic necessities that meet their individual needs. Partnerships with community-centered businesses like MVCU are critical to our work. Together, we will positively change the lives of more children experiencing crisis.”
