METHUEN—Last week, Methuen Democrat Jessica Finocchiaro was certified by local city and town clerks to appear on the September ballot running for the First Essex State Senate seat. Finocchiaro, an elected member of the Greater Lawrence Technical School District Committee and life-long resident of Methuen, will be challenging freshman State Senator Kathleen O’Connor Ives of Newburyport in the Democratic Primary.
“It’s wonderful to be certified by our local clerks, because now we can focus on the road ahead. I will bring strong transparent leadership on the local and state level, and stand up for working families. I look forward to connecting with the people of the First Essex State Senate district about the issues they care about most.” Finocchiaro said.
Finocchiaro was elected to represent Methuen on the Greater Lawrence Technical School Committee as a write-in candidate and now serves as Vice-Chair. The school’s district includes Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, and North Andover. “I am honored to have been elected to take on an important leadership role in our community as a member of the Greater Lawrence Technical School Committee, and my constituents know that in the Senate I will continue to be an advocate for working families and help our students get the education they need to start a career when they graduate. At the same time we need to focus on the Merrimack Valley’s infrastructure, so we can attract development that continues to bring quality jobs to the district.”
The First Essex district includes: Amesbury, Haverhill, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport, North Andover (Precincts 1-4), and Salisbury. The Democratic Primary will be held on Tuesday, September 9th, 2014. The incumbent, Kathleen O’Connor Ives, first won the Democratic Primary in 2012, with just 38 percent of the vote in a close three-way contest.
