Methuen Police Officers, Firefighters of the Year

The Methuen Exchange club held their annual Police Officer, Firefighter of the Year Awards dinner last month.

FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR 2016 – Michael Foley
Michael started with the department on March 1st of this year. He is currently attending the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow and will graduate December 23rd. A Massachusetts Certified EMT, Michael is a graduate on Bentley University. Michael is married to the former Tanya Waithe, daughter of retired Methuen Police Lieutenant Kevin Waithe and Brenda Waithe. They have two children Trinity and Gia. His parents are Mary Foley of No. Andover and Jack Foley of Florida.
FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR 2016 – John Hoehn
John has been a member of the department since August 2015, and is a Massachusetts certified EMT. A graduate of Methuen High School, John graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow in July of 2016. John is also a member of the United States Naval Reserve serving since 2011. He is a hospital corpsman with a rank of rank of 3rd class petty officer (e-4). John is not married but has a stepdaughter Tessa Therrien with Brittney Kannan. His parents are Beth and Rich Hoehn of Methuen.

Police Officer of the year 2016 – Officer William Kannan
Officer William Kannan was born and raised on Methuen. William graduated from Central Catholic High School in 2004. After high school, William attended Northern Essex Community College and received his associate’s degree in criminal justice. William graduated from the Reading Police Academy on January 15th, 2013. William lives in Methuen with his wife, Meghan, and their two sons, Tucker and Cal.

Police Officer of the Year 2016 – Officer Matthew Morel
A lifelong Methuen resident, Matthew Morel has been with the Methuen Police Department since February 2015. Matthew graduated from Methuen Police Academy at Northern Essex Community College and received the highest academic average. Matthew attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell and received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2013. Matthew graduated from Methuen High School in 2009.
