REP. PAULINO: Creating a Brighter Future for Our Community

By: State Rep. Francisco Paulino – 7/24

As I reflect on the power of community and the impact we can have on each other’s lives, I am reminded that investing in our youth is one of the most critical investments we can make. By providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are shaping not just their futures, but our collective wellbeing.

Our office has secured a significant bond bill amendment amounting to $650,000 for Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works, Inc.

This amendment, passed under the Economic Development House Bill 4789 by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, will enable Helfrich Brothers to establish an in-house welding academy. Imagine the impact this will have on our local youth!
This initiative will train them in a high-demand, well-paying trade, paving the way for a brighter future.

Helfrich Brothers has a long-standing, 50-year partnership with Greater Lawrence Vocational School, offering invaluable training and mentorship to students pursuing careers in engineering, machining, welding, and fabrication.

In addition, we have secured $500,000 for Northern Essex Community College through the same bond bill. These funds will create a pathway for high school students to earn an LPN certificate while completing their high school diploma through early college programs.

What does this mean for our community?

Good-paying job opportunities and a solution to the critical nurse shortage.

As these funds move through the conference committee for final review, I am optimistic about the positive impact they will have on our community. We are not just investing in infrastructure; we are investing in our youth and our future.

I am also proud to share that two critical bills I drafted and filed have received favorable reports out of committee:

House Bill 1931: Ensures timely and convenient wage payments through various methods, including electronic fund transfers and payroll cards, without passing costs onto employees.

House Bill 3636: Mandates minority recruitment and selection programs for law enforcement agencies to reflect the diversity of our community, with comprehensive reporting and monitoring requirements.

Together, we can create a future for the 16th Essex District that resonates with the laughter of our children and fulfills our shared dreams. Let’s continue building a community where our aspirations and values can flourish.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust. It is an honor to serve as your State Representative, and I look forward to continuing our work together for the betterment of Lawrence and Methuen.
