Robinson Urdaneta Lugo, age 25, of Lawrence, was charged with:

  • Trafficking Over 100 Grams of Fentanyl
  • Trafficking Over 18 Grams of Cocaine
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On Wednesday, July 10, at about 3:30 p.m., Winthrop Police detectives observed what they believed to be a drug transaction in the area of Bellevue Avenue and pulled over a Toyota Rav4 that was involved.

Inside the vehicle police located 105 grams of fentanyl, 21 grams of cocaine and $958 in cash. The cocaine and fentanyl were hidden inside of a sock that was stored in a hidden area behind the Rav4’s glove compartment.

The driver, identified as URDANETA LUGO, was arrested at the scene.

He was arraigned Thursday in East Boston District Court, where he was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing that is scheduled for July 19.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer against URDANETA LUGO.

“This defendant is believed to be a part of a larger drug trafficking organization that uses rental cars and ‘runners’ to deliver narcotics into local communities,” said Chief Goodwin. “I’m pleased that our observant detectives were able to spot this transaction and intercept a large amount of both cocaine and fentanyl before they ended up in the hands of those struggling with substance use disorder within our community.”
