Lawrence Mayor DePeña Appoints Castro as New Acting Police Chief

Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña has appointed his Chief of Staff William Castro be to be the acting Police Chief in the wake of the retirement of Chief Roy Vasque.

The mayor sent the following press release late Friday.

Effective immediately, the Chief of Staff, William Castro, will be assigned as Acting Chief of Police to the Lawrence Police Department.

Mr. Castro is an accomplished public safety professional with over 25 years of Law Enforcement experience.

Mr. William Castro also has a supportive human service, Criminal Justice background, and participatory leadership style prepared to introduce new concepts and strategies focusing on transparency, diversity, community engagement, fair practices, and police reform.

This administration understands that Mr. Castro has the necessary skills to give an excellent service to the city’s police department.

Mayor DePeña would like to thank Captain Michael McCarthy and all members of the police department for their work and support during this transition.
