Methuen’s TIP Healing Garden Completed

Healing-Garden-(4)

October, 2013

The Trauma Intervention Program of Merrimack Valley, Inc. (TIP) is a group of specially trained citizen volunteers who are called by police officers, fire fighters and hospital personnel to provide on scene, emotional and practical support to child and adult victims of traumatic events in the first few hours following a tragedy co-founded by Dr. Jayan Marie Landry.

Dr. Landry would accompany Brenda Waller, a TIP volunteer, during her chemotherapy treatments at Massachusetts General Hospital, and they came to appreciate the Hospital’s Ulfelder Healing Garden. Here the seeds for a Merrimack Valley Community Garden to benefit police, fire, emergency, citizens, & victims was born. Brenda lost her ten-year battle with breast cancer in November 2006, and since then, the TIP Team, including Brenda’s daughter Lindsay Waller and Dennis Larocque continue to raise money to support the garden.

Along with Dr. Jayan Landry and Lindsay Waller, former Methuen Mayor Bill Manzi was instrumental in helping this dream become a reality as the garden was cleaned and six granite memorial benches overlooking the Merrimack River were installed in phase one. Ruth Ann LeHane of Methuen picked up the ball and continuing to work closely with Joe Giarrusso and members of the Methuen conservation commission, moved the project to its final stages including the garden labyrinth completion.

After 20 years of providing support to over 20,000 citizens, TIP is pleased to offer this special public healing garden for all those to enjoy in our Merrimack Valley community.
