Whittier Tech’s Grace Parsons Receives $4,275 Scholarship At Annual BASH!

The Valley Patriot’s Whittier Tech Scholarship was started by Whittier Tech alum Al Veilleux. This year he donated more than $2,500 to this scholarship this year.

Flanked by Whittier Tech Superintendent Maureen Lynch, Al Veilleux, State Rep. Lenny Mirra, Haverhill School Committeeman Scott Wood, and her family, Grace Parsons was presented with a check for $4,275 before a packed house at the Relief’s In in Lawrence.

Grace Parsons is a Haverhill resident and a senior at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School. Grace is an exceptional student who ranks at the top of her class and is enrolled in Whittier’s most challenging courses. Her vocational program is culinary arts. Outside of the classroom, Grace is a peer leader, volleyball athlete and a member of the chess club. Additionally, she is an inductee to the elite National Technical Honor Society and a shift lead at the local Chick-Fil-A.

Grace and her family recently endured a devastating loss. Grace’s dad passed away unexpectedly from COVID in January. It is Grace’s desire to make her dad proud by being the first college graduate in their family.

Even in the face of this recent tragedy, Grace continues to excel and remain positive about her future. After her graduation from Whittier, Grace plans to attend Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I. to continue pursuing her culinary passion.

After the scholarship was presented, Al Veilleux, the founder and largest donor to this scholarship, won the 50/50 raffle and donated another $600 to Grace for her college education.

“Tonight, it’s about the kids. They were robbed of dances, and proms, and socialization in school for two years of their high school career. In the spirit of this BASH and all it means I couldn’t have kept that money; Grace deserves it.” ◊The Valley Patriot’s Whittier Tech Scholarship was started by Whittier Tech alum Al Veilleux.
