Lawrence Police Chief Agrees to Retire, Gets Approx. $780K Contract Buyout

Lawrence Police Chief Roy Vasque has signed an agreement with the City of Lawrence to not return to duty and retire from the City of Lawrence after being put on leave by Mayor Brian DePena.

According to sources, Vasque will be paid approximately $780,000 which includes about $300,000 in accrued sick and vacation time over his 30 plus years of service on the force.

Vasque was appointed chief in 2018 by Mayor Dan Rivera after serving as acting chief and heading the drug unit.

He received numerous awards in his time on the department and brought needed reforms to the way the city handles crime stats, prostitution, and was instrumental in bringing more diversity to the ranks of the department.
