Anne Brensley, Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor and the only Latina running statewide in Massachusetts, released the following statement in response to the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces.
Anne Brensley said: “The arrest of Nicolás Maduro is a significant moment for accountability and justice. For years, the Maduro regime inflicted enormous pain and suffering on the Venezuelan people through repression, corruption, and the destruction of basic freedoms. That suffering is the true calling card of socialism wherever it takes hold.
Maduro’s regime has also been linked to international drug trafficking networks that profit from addiction, violence, and instability. Those networks do not stop at national borders. The global drug trade has had devastating consequences for families and communities here in Massachusetts, overwhelming first responders and placing enormous strain on law enforcement.
What happens abroad has real consequences at home. Failed socialist regimes and narco states fuel crime, instability, and drug flows that directly impact public safety in the Commonwealth. Ignoring those connections puts our communities at risk.
As Lieutenant Governor, I will prioritize strong cooperation between state and federal law enforcement and ensure Massachusetts remains committed to combating drug trafficking and organized crime. We must support those on the front lines while holding criminals accountable at every level.
Massachusetts deserves leaders who are willing to speak clearly about the dangers of failed ideologies and who will always put public safety, accountability, and freedom first.”
